Tullio Vietri, 1959-2002
From the advent of cinemascope to critical reflection on the economic boom, from the Anni di Piombo (the Years of Lead), to the crisis of solidarity, from mass communication to the global village, from the environmental emergency to the winds of war
At MuVi, Civic Gallery of Contemporary Art in Viadana (MN), solo exhibition “Tullio Vietri: 1959-2002”, a solo exhibition dedicated to Tullio Vietri curated by Sandro Malossini, President of Felsina Factory, and by Paolo Guglielmo Conti, Director of the Galleria Civica. « A significant presence in the 1960s and 1970s, where he was a point of reference for all the art of contestation to a system tied to traditional and typically provincial canons, – writes Sandro Malossini – Vietri then deliberately eclipsed himself, refusing his presence to that world where he no longer found any correspondence of interests and values». This is precisely why the exhibition ranges from the late 1950s to the early 2000s, signifying Tullio Vietri’s long artistic career, but above all focusing on the 1960s, a period of full national and international visibility, as opposed to the long isolation between the mid-1970s and mid-1990s, which self-excluded him from the art world and the market but allowed him to concentrate on pictorial research with renewed vigor and total freedom of expression. « Personally, – writes Paolo Guglielmo Conti – I believe… that bringing his works to the public’s attention is an operation of relevant artistic and cultural value. »
