Art, for understanding

As its centennial celebrations draw to a close, the University of Trieste inaugurates its new Art Gallery: an important recognition of the artistic value of its acquired collection (see link to “In Trieste I liked to arrive…”, December 2023), previously presented in 2024 at the Centennial Exhibition at the Bastione Fiorito of the San Giusto Castle (see link to Centennial Exhibition 1924–2024, March 2024), and documented in the catalog “Donors 24”, as well as in the digital catalog accessible through the University portal (Link: https://smats.units.it/catalogo). The Art Gallery — located within the Library of the Department of Humanities in the very heart of the city and curated by Lorenzo Michelli — will, in the future, be open to the public, extending access beyond students and the academic community.
An ideal placement for Tullio Vietri: at the very entrance of the exhibition, the reading room is wholly dedicated to his six paintings, which seem to converse naturally with the old library volumes and the vibrant life of the city seen through the large windows.
Art for understanding, art as a tool for knowledge, art to be comprehended, appreciated, and “used” by new generations to interpret a changing world: a powerful message from the University of Trieste, perfectly in tune with Tullio Vietri’s vision.
